Diese Seite ist in erster Linie für das figürliche Zeichnen nach Life-Modellen gedacht, aber es findet sich eine Menge Fotomaterial, das für Porträts geeignet ist. Die Betreiber der Seite erwarten eine Spende, die ich gerne gebe, weil ich sehr davon profitiere. Aber im Prinzip können die Fotos frei und kostenlos verwendet werden. Many of the reference photos I use for portraits I find on this site. This site is intended primarily for life and figure drawing, but you will find a lot of material, that is suitable for portraits. They expect a donation, which I give, because I benefit from it very much, but in principle the photos can be used freely. You don't have to worry about copyright and the rights of the depicted persons.
Auf einer meiner digital vorbereiteten Malgründe, die ich in einem warmen Grundton getönt habe, beginne ich wie immer mit einer Skizze, auf der ich auch die dunkleren Töne des Haars und der Schatten angelegt habe.
On one of my digitally prepared canvases, which I have toned in a warm tone, I start, as always, with a sketch on which I have also created the darker tones of the hair and the shadows.
In den nächsten Schritten geht es mir zunächst einmal nur darum, die grundlegenden Farbtemperaturen und -werte zu finden und die Leinwand mit Farbe zu füllen. Details sind zunächst einmal nur angedeutet. Allerdings achte ich sehr darauf, die ursprünglichen Proportionen der Skizze nicht zu verlieren.
In the next few steps, I'm only interested in finding the basic color temperatures and values and filling the canvas with color. Details are only hinted for now. But I am very careful not to lose the original proportions of the sketch.
Bis hier hin war ich mir noch nicht ganz sicher, was ich mit dem Haar machen würde. Mit gefiel die Frisur nicht. Mir schwebte volleres Haar vor. Auch war ich mir noch nicht sicher, was ich mit dem Bereich unten links machen würde. Also habe ich beides noch in der Schwebe gelassen.
So far, I was not sure what to do with the hair. I did not like the hairstyle. I imagined fuller hair. Also, I was not sure what I would do down on the left side. So I left both open.
Erst in der weiteren Ausarbeitung der Details habe ich mich beim Haar festgelegt, etwas fülliger und mit einem leichten rötlichen Einschlag. Der Farbton, den Kammeron hat liegt wohl eher im Bereich brünett. Das und der Ohrring fallen unter künstlerische Freiheit. Der Bereich unten links gefiel mir so immer noch nicht. Gleichwohl ist das jetzt das Stadium, wo das Bildgerüst "steht", wo alles seinen Platz hat und wo es im Folgenden darum geht, mit einem Wechselspiel von harten und weichen Akzenten und Kanten das Bild interessant und lebendig zu gestalten. Das ist der Abschnitt im Malprozess, den ich besonders liebe.
Only in the further elaboration of the details I fixed the hair, a little fuller and with a slight reddish impact. The color tone, that Kammeron has is probably more in the range of brunette. This and the earring fall under artistic freedom. I still did not like the area on the bottom left. Nonetheless, this is now the stage where the scaffolding stands where everything has its place and where the point is to make the picture interesting and vivid in the interplay of hard, soft and lost edges. This is the section in the painting process that I especially love.
Tja, und irgendwann muss man entscheiden, dass das Bild fertig ist.
Well, and at some point you have to decide that the painting is finished.
